This groundbreaking project focuses on mangrove restoration in the Indus River Delta, Pakistan, covering 350,000 hectares. Over its 60-year lifespan, from February 19, 2015, to February 18, 2075, it is estimated to remove over 142 million tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e). The Indus Delta features the largest arid climate mangrove forests globally, situated along a major migratory route for thousands of birds.

Mangroves are critical for climate adaptation, capable of sequestering five times more carbon than tropical forests. Despite their importance, 67% of mangroves worldwide have been lost or degraded, with only 147,000 km² remaining—an area similar to Bangladesh.

The Delta Blue Carbon project not only protects and restores these vital ecosystems but also improves the livelihoods of over 42,000 people living in 60 coastal villages, 70% of whom live below the poverty line.
