Delta Blue Carbon is the world’s largest mangrove restoration project. Mangrove forests can sequester up to five times as much carbon as tropical forests and are essential for climate adaptation along coasts. Despite these benefits, around 67% of mangroves worldwide have been lost or degraded and only 147,000km2 remain – an area about the size of Bangladesh. In addition to protecting and restoring 350,000ha of mangrove forests in Pakistan, this project is improving the wellbeing and livelihoods of over 42,000 people in the local communities, of which 70% live below the poverty line.
