Global Carbon Project Development & Strategic Partnership

In January 2025, ASJ traveled from Vancouver to New York for several days of in-depth discussions with a leading global carbon project development team, gaining further insight into the full carbon project lifecycle—from project development and methodologies to credit issuance and market application—while exploring potential areas of collaboration.

The discussions covered nature-based solutions, REDD+, sustainable development, and climate governance, as well as carbon projects under development across Southeast Asia and South America. The parties also exchanged perspectives on connecting high-quality international carbon projects with the evolving needs of corporate and institutional buyers in Asia.

Among the initiatives discussed was a planned Jaguar-related conservation program in South America, bringing together forest and biodiversity conservation, community engagement, and carbon market mechanisms. The initiative was also discussed in the context of the broader climate agenda surrounding COP30 in Brazil.

Following several days of meetings, the engagement concluded with a final discussion at the Harvard Club of New York on January 17. The visit provided ASJ with deeper insight into how large international developers originate and manage high-quality carbon projects, while strengthening the foundation for connecting global project supply with corporate and institutional demand across Asia.

Brunei Sustainable Development & Government Engagement

In April 2025, ASJ was invited to visit Brunei for the first time, engaging with multiple government-related agencies, including the Prime Minister’s Office, to exchange perspectives on the country’s future development, energy transition, digital infrastructure, and regional opportunities.

Located on the island of Borneo, Brunei possesses significant energy and natural resources. As the global transition toward a lower-carbon economy continues, the discussions explored how the country could build upon its existing strengths while considering opportunities across low-carbon development, natural capital, carbon markets, and next-generation digital infrastructure.

The visit also included discussions on emerging infrastructure opportunities such as AI data centers and the potential for Brunei to leverage its strategic location and resources to connect with the broader Borneo and ASEAN economies.

For ASJ, the engagement provided an opportunity to better understand Brunei’s long-term development direction within the wider Borneo region, while exploring potential connections across energy, carbon markets, infrastructure, and Asian capital.

University Brunei Darussalam — Sustainability & Innovation Exchange

During ASJ’s visit to Brunei in April 2025, our team had an in-depth exchange with Ms. Joyce Teo, Assistant Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (Global Engagement), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and her team.

The discussions explored the future of sustainable development in Brunei and the broader Borneo region, with particular focus on AI data centers and related infrastructure, carbon markets, and green materials, as well as how emerging technologies and industries can contribute to sustainable cities and regional development.

The exchange also explored opportunities for stronger collaboration between academia and industry. For ASJ, universities represent an important bridge connecting research, technology, industry, capital, and public policy. Our engagement with UBD provided valuable perspectives on Brunei’s research capabilities, talent ecosystem, and sustainability initiatives, while opening opportunities for future cross-border collaboration across Asia.

We look forward to continuing the dialogue and exploring further collaboration through regional platforms such as the Borneo Studies Network Conference, strengthening connections between Brunei, the broader Borneo region, and international partners.

Connecting Carbon Markets with Borneo’s Sustainable Future

At the invitation of Dr. Joyce Teo of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), ASJ participated in the 3rd Borneo Studies Network (BSN) Conference as a keynote speaker, sharing perspectives on global carbon market developments and the growing importance of high-integrity carbon credits.

The conference, themed “Smart City Transformation, Biodiversity, and Green Supply Chain in Borneo,” brought together researchers, policymakers, and industry practitioners from across Borneo and Southeast Asia to explore interdisciplinary approaches to smart cities, biodiversity, green supply chains, and sustainable development.

ASJ’s keynote focused on carbon market trends, corporate and institutional demand for high-quality carbon credits, and the evolving connection between Asian carbon markets and global climate action. The conference also provided an opportunity to deepen engagement with Brunei’s academic, public-sector, and industry networks while exploring potential collaboration in natural capital, green infrastructure, and sustainable development.

From Pilot Development to CCER Public Disclosure

Following extensive project development, coordination, and preparation, the Jinta County Populus Euphratica Shelterbelt Forestry Carbon Project, led by ASJ Global Group, officially entered the project public disclosure stage under China’s national voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction registration system, marking an important milestone in ASJ’s development of CCER projects in China.

The project represents an important pilot initiative for ASJ in the forestry carbon sector. A smaller-scale approach was adopted to validate the full development pathway—from project assessment and development through registration and public disclosure—while building the technical and operational experience required for CCER project execution.

Through this initiative, ASJ continues to strengthen its CCER project development capabilities and replicable execution framework, establishing a foundation for the future development and scaling of forestry and other voluntary emission-reduction projects in China.

From Carbon Project Development to Natural Capital & Corporate Climate Action

ASJ was invited to speak at “Co-Creating Global Impact: Biodiversity × Youth Action × Road to COP30” in Taipei, sharing practical experience in carbon project development, international carbon markets, and corporate climate action.

As corporate sustainability strategies expand beyond carbon reduction toward natural capital and biodiversity, carbon markets increasingly require an integrated understanding of project development, methodologies, integrity and quality, international standards, and corporate use and disclosure. Drawing on hands-on project experience, ASJ shared practical perspectives on the journey from carbon project development to market execution, as well as the opportunities and challenges companies face when participating in international voluntary carbon markets.

The forum also connected discussions on biodiversity, youth engagement, and the road to COP30, providing a platform to explore how businesses can incorporate carbon management, natural capital, and sustainability into long-term strategies while strengthening connections between Asian markets and global climate action.

First CCER Forestry Pilot Completes Public Disclosure

The Jinta County Populus Euphratica Shelterbelt CCER Forestry Carbon Project, developed with the participation of ASJ Global Group, has completed its one-month public disclosure period and can now proceed to the next stage of the CCER project development process.

As ASJ’s first CCER forestry carbon pilot project, the initiative was deliberately developed on a smaller scale to gain hands-on experience across key stages of the development process, including project assessment, methodology application, documentation, and public disclosure. Completion of this milestone represents both progress for the project and an important step in building ASJ’s practical CCER development and execution capabilities in China.

The Jinta shelterbelt also delivers broader environmental benefits through ecological restoration, desertification control, and carbon sequestration. Building on this pilot, ASJ aims to further develop a replicable project-development framework and establish a foundation for larger-scale forestry and nature-based carbon projects.

From ESG Principles to Carbon Market Practice

ASJ was invited to join a University of Toronto Shanghai alumni ESG sharing session, bringing together alumni and business professionals to exchange perspectives on ESG, carbon markets, and sustainable business development.

The discussion began with the fundamentals of ESG and extended into the practical aspects of carbon project development, carbon market mechanisms, and the integration of decarbonization strategies into corporate operations. Drawing on ASJ’s experience in Asian carbon markets and project development, the session explored how sustainability objectives can evolve into practical business and market applications.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for University of Toronto alumni across different industries to exchange perspectives on ESG, cross-border investment, and emerging sustainability trends in Asia.

Through its Canada–Asia network, ASJ continues to connect alumni, businesses, and industry professionals while exploring new opportunities at the intersection of carbon markets, sustainable investment, and cross-border collaboration.

Rethinking ESG Through Forest Carbon Market Practice

On August 20, 2025, ASJ was invited to participate in the “ESG Challenges, Reflection & the Future” forum in Taipei, joining professionals from the finance, energy, and sustainability sectors to discuss the evolving challenges surrounding ESG and its future direction.

Drawing on its practical experience in forest carbon and carbon project development, ASJ shared perspectives on afforestation and forest conservation, carbon methodologies, project development, and carbon asset management. Through real-world experience in Asia, the discussion explored how the environmental value of natural assets can be translated into measurable, verifiable, and market-based carbon assets.

As ESG evolves from broad commitments toward greater expectations for governance, disclosure, and investment discipline, the key question is increasingly not simply whether an initiative is sustainable, but whether its environmental impact can be credibly measured, managed, and translated into long-term value.

ASJ continues to connect its experience across carbon markets, natural assets, and cross-border investment to explore practical applications for high-integrity carbon projects and sustainable assets across Asia.

Connecting Energy Transition with Decarbonization Investment

On October 28, 2025, ASJ Global Group attended the BloombergNEF Taiwan Summit 2025 in Taipei, bringing together leaders from the energy, financial, and corporate sectors to discuss the evolving landscape of renewable energy, supply-chain transformation, transport electrification, and the global energy transition.

A key area of discussion was the growing corporate transition toward 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy, as decarbonization strategies evolve beyond annual renewable energy procurement toward more granular matching of electricity consumption with carbon-free power. This transition is increasing the importance of renewable generation, energy storage, grid resilience, and advanced energy management.

These developments are closely aligned with ASJ’s work across renewable energy, carbon markets, energy infrastructure, and sustainable investment. Through continued engagement with industry and financial-market participants, ASJ seeks to identify cross-border investment and partnership opportunities emerging from the energy transition across Taiwan and the broader Asian market.

From Inclusive Innovation to Global Sustainable Impact

ASJ Global Group was invited to participate in the 2025 Reach Conference Singapore, bringing together participants from academia, government, business, and the social innovation community to explore how technology, research, and cross-sector collaboration can translate innovation into scalable and sustainable impact.

The Reach Alliance focuses on understanding how innovation and essential services can better reach underserved communities, while identifying solutions that are inclusive, scalable, and capable of creating lasting impact. This approach is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the broader global sustainability agenda.

For ASJ, the conference also provided an international platform to connect our experience across carbon markets, renewable energy, Article 6, climate finance, and sustainable investment. Discussions with participants from different markets and disciplines offered valuable perspectives on how market mechanisms, cross-border capital, and real-world projects can work together to support sustainable development across Asia and other emerging markets.

ASJ will continue to bridge Asian and international markets, creating opportunities at the intersection of climate action, sustainable infrastructure, and cross-border investment while supporting solutions that deliver both environmental impact and long-term economic value.
